Bailey-Moline / Filgo Building

Picker’s Universe

Built in 1929, the Bailey-Moline/Filgo Building was purpose built to accommodate the Bailey-Moline Hardware company by G.W. Filgo, whose name is etched into the parapet. Filgo was a prolific developer in Wichita Falls throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and also served as county commissioner in the late 1920s.

Wichita Falls has been experiencing a recent downtown renaissance with the rehabilitation of multiple historic commercial buildings as well as other placemaking projects. The owners of the building and the Pickers Universe antiques shop are dedicated to the continued revitalization and vibrancy of downtown Wichita Falls. When the Bailey-Moline/Filgo Building fell vacant in 2014, they purchased the building and moved their business, then located outside the downtown core, to the primary storefront space. They then began plans for the rehabilitation of the rest of the building, including vacant secondary storefront spaces and the vacant second story. Additional small, local businesses in the secondary storefronts as well as the restaurant on the second story will contribute to the economic activity of downtown Wichita Falls. The multitude of uses and activities within the building, which has until recently been underutilized, will also help to activate and invigorate the area around the building.
