Wimberley, Texas

Historic Resources Survey

Post Oak was retained by the City of Wimberley to complete a National Register of Historic Places historic district nomination, a local historic district, and design guidelines in order to guide development and preserve the distinct cultural and architectural traditions of the small, Texas hill country community. The City of Wimberley, which was historically an agricultural community until the 1920s, when it became a recreational and tourism destination, consists of a variety of vernacular residential, commercial, and religious resources ranging in date from the late nineteenth through late twentieth centuries. Ms. Wallisch and Post Oak staff surveyed and inventoried historic-age resources surrounding the historic downtown Square, evaluated the resources for their historical significance and integrity, conducted extensive archival research, in-person public outreach and interviews, and composed a nomination for a proposed NRHP historic district boundary.
