The Petroleum Building was originally built as a 5-story parking garage in 1953 before being converted to offices in 1956 by famed Houston architects Wilson, Morris, Crain, & Anderson (who also helped design the Astrodome). The striking Mid-Century Modern building had been a stylish fixture of downtown Longview, Texas for decades, serving professionals in the oil and gas industry.

In 2017 a $10M rehabilitation began, transforming the building into 48 mixed-income apartments. Character-defining Mid-Century Modern elements were retained, such as colorful tile and the turquoise metal curtain wall, while outdated former offices were outfitted as contemporary apartment units.
