Billy Mitchell Village
San Antonio, Texas
Billy Mitchell Village is a postwar military housing development historically associated with Kelly and Lackland Air Force Base in southwestern San Antonio. Designed by architect Erwin Gerber for the United States Department of Defense, Billy Mitchell Village was constructed on 94 acres in three phases between 1949 and 1951. Post Oak Preservation Solutions assisted the owner in the rehabilitation of Billy Mitchell Village. Historic Tax Credits (HTC) as well as Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) were used to make the rehabilitation of this 23-building complex possible. The rehabilitation focused on retaining the historic elements of the building while updating finishes and MEP equipment. Post Oak wrote a National Register of Historic Places nomination for Billy Mitchell Village and consulted with the project team to secure Texas and Federal historic tax credits for this complex in San Antonio.
