Bridgeport, Texas

Historic Resources Survey

Post Oak was contracted by the City of Bridgeport Economic Development Council to complete a National Register of Historic Places historic district nomination for the downtown commercial area. The Bridgeport Downtown Commercial District consists of buildings that were constructed between 1893-1974, the period in which Bridgeport’s economy capitalized on the area’s rich natural resources including coal, stone, oil, and natural gas, as well as brick manufacturing. Post Oak staff surveyed and inventoried historic-age resources in Bridgeport’s downtown commercial area, evaluated the resources for their historical significance and integrity, conducted extensive archival research, and authored a nomination for the proposed NRHP historic district boundary. The results of the survey and subsequent NRHP nomination were approved by the Texas Historical Commission in January 2024.
