Gatesville, Texas
Historic Resources Survey
Post Oak was contracted by the City of Gatesville to complete a National Register of Historic Places historic district nomination for the city's downtown. As the Coryell County seat, downtown Gatesville is concentrated in the eight blocks surrounding the prominent Coryell County Courthouse and consists primarily of commercial and civic buildings that were constructed between 1885 and 1974. Post Oak staff surveyed and inventoried all historic-age buildings in downtown Gatesville, as well as the WPA-era resources in nearby Raby Park. All resources were evaluated for historical significance and integrity, and with the aid of extensive archival research, Post Oak authored a nomination for the proposed NRHP historic district. The results of the survey and subsequent NRHP nomination are currently in review at the Texas Historical Commission. Listing on the NRHP will avail property owners within the district to take advantage of valuable tax credits for rehabilitating their historic buildings.
