In Taylor, Texas, this 1956 Junior High School sat vacant for decades before being rehabilitated as apartments and a restaurant in 2019. Prior to the renovation, multiple changes over time, such as the infilling of original multi-light windows, obscured the school’s distinctive Midcentury Modern design.

The Junior High and neighboring historic high school underwent a $2.7M rehabilitation as a mixed-use campus just blocks from downtown Taylor. In the Junior High, classrooms were converted to modern apartments while the former band hall became a restaurant. As part of the rehabilitation, new, compatible multi-light windows filled previously infilled openings, bringing ample light into the apartment units. Today, the school campus is a lively addition to Taylor.
