Tobin Hill, San Antonio, Texas
Historic Resources Survey
In 2021, the City of San Antonio contracted Post Oak Preservation Solutions to perform a survey of the Tobin Hill neighborhood, located northwest of downtown San Antonio. This diverse neighborhood includes historic residential construction ranging from shotgun houses to grand manors; institutions such as hospitals, schools, churches, temples, and colleges; commercial buildings; and even some industrial facilities.
The draft survey area is shown (blue) with existing historic districts and suggested potential historic districts indicated in overlays. The draft of the second map (blue and yellow) identifies historic buildings that retain sufficient integrity to contribute to a potential historic district (yellow) and non-contributing buildings (blue).
In accordance with guidelines from the Texas Historical Commission, we completed a survey form for each of the more than 1,400 resources within the Tobin Hill neighborhood. Surveys like this one are invaluable to inform municipalities regarding what historic resources remain.
