Wimberley Historic District Design Guidelines
Post Oak Preservation Solutions worked with the City of Wimberley to complete a National Register of Historic Places historic district nomination, a local historic district, and design guidelines in order to guide development and preserve the distinct cultural and architectural traditions of the small, Texas hill country community. The City of Wimberley, which was historically an agricultural community until the 1920s, when it became a recreational and tourism destination, consists of a variety of vernacular residential, commercial, and religious resources ranging in date from the late nineteenth through late twentieth centuries. Post Oak staff surveyed and inventoried historic-age resources surrounding the historic downtown Square and composed a National Register Historic District nomination.
Furthermore, as part of our commitment to preserving Wimberley’s architectural legacy, Post Oak created an enabling ordinance and a local historic district ordinance that laid the groundwork for Wimberley’s preservation program and crafted design guidelines specifically tailored to the local historic district. These guidelines serve as a valuable tool, offering clear direction and principles to guide development while honoring the community’s distinct heritage. By providing comprehensive guidance, we empower property owners to make informed decisions that enhance the aesthetic and cultural fabric of the district.
